Case Study

We installed our typical RCABC approved torch on roof system to this first-in-Canada used shipping container structure. The job was inspected and passed by a certified roof inspection firm.

The structure was 3 containers tall and 2 side-by-side containers were off set 4'. Each floor had a front and back unit.

A black metal edge flashing was used around the perimeter. The deck was posi-sloped for drainage. We installed a containment lip on 3 sides, to keep the water on the roof, and not allow it flow over all sides. The bottom gutter edge had a simple drip edge flashing.

All units will receive adequate natural light through full length windows

This is a project we’re very proud of. The first of its kind in North America, social housing built using shipping containers offers new housing opportunities.

Crucial Roof Services was the roofing contractor selected. Our signature roof is the RCABC approved Soprema torch-on system and that’s what we were able to install on these homes. The City of Vancouver initially was against container housing. Our congratulations to James Weldon for getting this project approved and for realizing the potential in this low cost housing solution. We’re hoping it’s the first of many such projects.
